Microsoft is bringing its AI-powered chatbot experience, Bing Chat, to the enterprise market. At the Inspire conference, the company unveiled Bing Chat Enterprise, a version of Bing Chat specifically designed for business users, featuring enhanced data privacy and governance controls. With Bing Chat Enterprise, chat data is not stored, Microsoft cannot access customer employee or business data, and customer data is not used to train the underlying AI models.

Responding to concerns about data protection, Frank X. Shaw, Microsoft’s chief communications officer, emphasized the importance of safeguarding companies’ data. He stated, “[Using Bing Chat Enterprise,] what goes in — and comes out — remains protected, giving commercial customers managed access to better answers, greater efficiency, and new ways to be creative.”

The issue of data privacy has become a significant consideration for companies utilizing chatbots like Bing Chat, as they seek to ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information shared with the chatbot. To address these concerns, Apple recently restricted internal access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft-owned GitHub’s Copilot. A survey by Cyberhaven revealed that a percentage of employees had copied and pasted company data, including sensitive information, into chatbots like ChatGPT.

Functionally similar to Bing Chat, Bing Chat Enterprise provides text-based responses as well as answers presented through graphs, charts, and images. Users can leverage Bing Chat Enterprise to generate messaging for new products, compare products, and include sensitive data such as specifications and pricing in their queries.

In the future, Bing Chat Enterprise will introduce a feature called Visual Search, allowing users to ask questions about uploaded images and search the web for related content. Visual Search has started rolling out in Bing Chat on mobile and the web.

Bing Chat Enterprise is accessible wherever Bing Chat is supported, including Bing.com/chat, the Microsoft Edge sidebar, and soon from Windows Copilot. It is currently available for free to customers subscribed to Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard, and Business Premium plans. As a standalone offering, Bing Chat Enterprise will be priced at $5 per user per month.

The launch of Bing Chat Enterprise follows the introduction of GitHub’s Copilot for Business and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, highlighting the growing trend of monetizing AI-powered chatbot technologies. Bing Chat, which relies on OpenAI’s GPT-4 model, requires substantial infrastructure investment, estimated to be at least $4 billion, to cater to all Bing users.
