The UK’s Link ATM network is piloting a new type of ATM capable of accepting deposits for multiple banks. The first of these “super ATMs” is operational in Atherstone, Warwickshire, with additional machines to be tested soon, as announced by Cash Access UK.

With the decline of local bank branches on the high street, these new machines aim to ease the burden on small business owners who often travel long distances to deposit their cash takings.

Martin McTague, National Chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), highlights the importance of this innovation: “The decline of the bank branch network has left many without vital services, especially the ability for small business owners to safely deposit daily takings without closing early or traveling miles. The introduction of a super ATM that works for multiple banks is a significant innovation and can make a real difference, complementing the accelerated rollout of banking hubs and the maintenance of Post Office counters.”

These new ATMs, connected to the Link network and established in partnership with NCR Atleos and Note Machine, will accept cash deposits from customers of Bank of Scotland, Barclays, Halifax, Lloyds, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Ulster Bank.
