ADB reports GH¢478.5 million profit as deposits and liquidity strengthen

Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has reported improved financial performance for the first nine months of 2026, with profit before tax rising to GH¢478.5 million from GH¢447.5 million recorded during the corresponding period in 2025. The bank says it will build on the gains by strengthening its financial position, improving customer service and expanding support for businesses across Ghana.

Managing Director Edward Ato Sarpong said the results reflect ongoing efforts to position ADB as a stronger, more resilient and competitive financial institution.

Commenting on the bank’s unaudited financial results for the period ended September 30, 2026, Sarpong said: “Our financial performance reflects the steady progress we are making in building a stronger, more resilient, and competitive bank.”

ADB records growth in profit after tax

According to the financial results published on Thursday, October 29, 2026, ADB’s profit after tax increased by 6.9% to GH¢301.7 million, compared with GH¢282.3 million recorded in September 2025.

The improvement in profitability points to stronger earnings during the reporting period, while the bank’s management has emphasised the importance of maintaining financial discipline and managing resources prudently.

Sarpong said the growth in profits, alongside higher customer deposits and improved capital and liquidity positions, reflected the bank’s commitment to sustainable value creation.

“The growth in profitability, significant increase in customer deposits, and our capital and liquidity positions demonstrate our commitment to financial discipline, prudent management and sustainable value creation,” he stated.

Customer deposits rise by GH¢2.51 billion

Customer deposits increased by 19.5%, rising from GH¢12.85 billion in September 2025 to GH¢15.36 billion in September 2026. This represents an increase of approximately GH¢2.51 billion over the period.

The growth in deposits reflects an expansion in the funds held by the bank on behalf of its customers, contributing to its broader financial position.

ADB also reported a significant improvement in its Capital Adequacy Ratio, which rose from 0.49% to 27.41%. Its liquidity ratio increased from 130% to 145.83%, while interest expenses declined by 36.1%, falling from GH¢565.4 million to GH¢361.3 million.

Together, these figures indicate improvements across several reported financial indicators, including profitability, deposits, capital adequacy, liquidity and interest expenses.

Bank targets stronger customer relationships

Sarpong said ADB would continue to consolidate its recent gains by deepening customer relationships and providing financial support to businesses and individuals.

“We remain focused on consolidating these gains and positioning ADB as a trusted financial partner for businesses, individuals and the productive sectors of Ghana’s economy,” he added.

The managing director stressed that the bank’s long-term ambition extends beyond profitability to include financial soundness, customer-focused service and the creation of sustainable value.

“Our goal is to build an institution that is not only profitable, but financially sound, customer-focused and capable of delivering long-term value,” Sarpong said.

Agriculture and agribusiness remain central to ADB’s mandate

ADB also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s agricultural sector, agribusinesses and the wider economy. Sarpong said the bank would continue to improve its operations while remaining focused on its development mandate.

“We are determined to sustain this positive momentum while remaining faithful to our mandate of supporting agriculture, agribusiness and the broader Ghanaian economy,” he stated.

The bank’s latest results place continued emphasis on balancing financial performance with its role in financing productive activities. As ADB works to strengthen its position, its stated priorities remain improved service delivery, prudent management and support for businesses and individuals across Ghana.
