The race for digital transformation is in full swing on the continent. Governments are increasingly opting for public-private partnerships to accelerate their countries’ digital transformation.

Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a Cassava Technologies company operating in the field of connectivity, innovation and smart technologies, announced on Wednesday, April 5, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Zambian authorities. The aim is to accelerate the country’s digital transformation and provide reliable and affordable connectivity to the population.

“Being able to contribute significantly to Zambia’s socio-economic growth and infrastructure development by sharing our knowledge and skills, and providing the necessary infrastructure and services to Zambians in this phase of growth is important to us,” said Mark Townsend, Managing Director of Liquid Intelligent Technologies’ Zambian subsidiary.

According to the Zambia Inclusive Digital Economy Status Report 2022, the country scored 45% of the digital economy and 47% of the population is not digitally included. Yet, Zambia is undergoing a transformation thanks to ongoing digitalization and wants to position itself as a strong hub for digital activity in the region. To this end, the authorities sign strategic partnerships and invest in the sector.

The agreement with Liquid Intelligent also includes an expansion of its fiber network to connect even more cities, provide the infrastructure to connect schools and clinics along the network, and launch a new data center capable of meeting the growing data hosting needs of local businesses and hyperscalers establishing their presence in the country. Liquid Intelligent will also support President Hichilema’s government in the process of developing public and private cloud and cybersecurity solutions for the digitization of government services.
