Information and communication technologies are booming in Tanzania. To this end, the country’s government has opened its doors to foreign entrepreneurs in order to promote the rapid development of the sector.

Tanzanian Vice-President Philip Mpango invites investors from around the world to prospect and invest in the ICT and digital transformation sector in Tanzania.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023 while opening the first Tanzania-European Union (EU) business forum in Dar es Salaam, Philip Mpango took the opportunity to praise Tanzania’s digital sector, while reminding present investors that the country’s national ICT policy recommends investment in the construction of digital infrastructure such as data centers and digital technology institutes.

ICT and digital transformation are among the main drivers of rapid development […] This approach aims to improve skills and take advantage of cutting-edge digital innovations such as robotic engineering and artificial intelligence,” he said before adding that the Tanzanian government was focusing on building a dynamic economy based on four pillars, namely reform, reconciliation, resilience and reconstruction.

Thus, to pave the way for national and international investors, the government has taken steps to strengthen and modernize the sector, in particular through the creation of the Tanzania Investment Centre and the establishment of the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority. These centers aim to effectively serve as one-stop shops for the promotion and facilitation of investments.

The government, pending foreign investment, continues to develop the sector through its own actions. In October, the government inaugurated a package of infrastructure costing $3.4 million. These include 11 ICT centers in the 11 districts of Unguja and Pemba, the two main islands forming the Zanzibar archipelago, as well as 42 communication towers on the archipelago.
