In a triumphant victory, the Future DX team from Mafikeng, North West, secured the top spot in the Hackathon category of the 2023 MTN App of the Year awards, showcasing exceptional skills and problem-solving prowess.
Their winning creation, Thutofy, is an online learning platform equipped with integrated AI, addressing the digital skills gap in Africa. Specifically targeting unemployed graduates, youth, and professionals, Thutofy offers digital skills courses, a portfolio of evidence for CVs, job recommendations, and gamification with incentives to foster learning and combat unemployment.
The Hackathon category was sponsored by the Energy and Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA), a driving force in developing solutions for the future sustainability of South Africa. EWSETA gains access to locally developed innovative solutions that advance skills development in energy and water preservation, usage, and management, along with addressing other social challenges.
Candice Moodley, Corporate Services Executive for EWSETA, congratulated Thato Semenya and Letlhogonolo Korasi from Future DX, acknowledging their dedication, technical expertise, and profound understanding of social issues that led to the development of this groundbreaking solution.
