Showmax cuts price on its mobile platform across Africa

Showmax, an online subscription video on demand service, has announced a price reduction on its mobile platform that will see users across Africa pay on average 20% less for access to its full catalogue on a single mobile device.

Multichoice Group CEO for Connected Video, Yolisa Phahle, cited pressure on consumers during this period that has necessitated the price reduction on its mobile-only entertainment plan.

“We know that consumers are under pressure at the moment and we believe this change will be appreciated by our mobile customers as will the decision not to increase any of our other prices. We have our most exciting slate of Showmax Originals this year and look forward to more of our subscribers enjoying our proudly African stories,” said Phahle.

The company says it has already released four Showmax Originals this year and is looking at adding more during the course of 2021.

Showmax says it will also continue to bring the best of HBO, international series, movies and kids’ shows to Africa first and that promotional bundles will be unaffected by this change.
