SweepSouth expanded into Kenya in 2020, and began operation in Nigeria this month
South Africa startup SweepSouth has announced its intent to expand further across Africa. The startup was founded in 2014 by Aisha Pandor and Alen Ribic (a couple) as an online platform where clients can order home-service providers. In only seven years, the company has grown from a startup to South Africa’s largest on-demand home cleaning service provider.
SweepSouth expanded into Kenya in 2020, and began operation in Nigeria this month – and plans to expand its presence further across Africa. According to an IOL article, the expansion comes at an interesting time when customers emerge from rigorous lockdowns when in spring cleaning mode. Bookings in South Africa are back to pre-pandemic levels recording a 200% increase in business.
To meet the market gap, the couple will develop an online platform while taking the effort out of the connection process reducing any friction points. Clients get pre-vetted trustworthy home service providers to choose from, and all payments are made on the platform.
In early 2021, SweepSouth released the annual Report on Pay and Working Conditions for Domestic Workers in Africa, particularly Kenya and Nigeria. The report’s findings dovetailed their new launch and highlighted the extent to Nigerian domestic workers caught covid-19.
