The Board of Directors of Zenith Bank Plc has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Adaora Umeoji as the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank.

This appointment, conveyed in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investment public, is effective from June 1, 2024, pending approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Dr. Umeoji’s elevation to the role marks a historic moment as she becomes the first female to lead Zenith Bank. Currently serving as the Deputy GMD, she will succeed Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose five-year tenure concludes on May 31, 2024.

Profile of Adaora Umeoji:

Prior to her appointment, Dr. Umeoji served as the Deputy Managing Director of Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016, accumulating nearly thirty years of extensive banking experience, with twenty-six years dedicated to Zenith Bank.

Her academic background is impressive, boasting a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Jos, Bachelor’s Degrees in Accounting and Law with First-Class honors from Baze University, Abuja, a Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, and an MBA from the University of Calabar. Additionally, she holds a doctorate in business administration from Apollos University, USA.

Dr. Umeoji has further honed her skills through executive education programs at renowned institutions such as Harvard Business School, where she completed the Advanced Management Program and various other strategic management courses. She also holds certificates from Columbia Business School, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Wharton Business School, among others.

Her contributions to peace advocacy, recognized by the United Nations (UN-POLAC), earned her the Officer of the Order of Nigeria (OON) national honor from the Nigerian government in 2022 for her significant nation-building endeavors.
