The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has introduced an innovative initiative that employs blockchain technology to validate National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates.

Yusuf Kashifu, the Director-General of NITDA, unveiled this project during a stakeholders’ policy dialogue event on the ‘Implementation of the national blockchain’ held in Lagos.

NITDA has collaborated with the newly appointed Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, to lead the creation of an advanced blockchain-based certificate authentication system. This initiative is a response to the prevalent challenges of certificate forgery and fraudulent issuance.

Kashifu stated, “The NYSC certificate has been a concern due to widespread cases of forgery and fraudulent issuance.”

The innovative approach is designed to enhance the credibility and authenticity of NYSC certificates, ultimately fostering transparency and trust in the certification process.

Highlighting the transformative potential of blockchain technology, Kashifu expressed, “We acknowledge the pressing need to tackle the prevalent issue of forged NYSC certificates in Nigeria.”

“By harnessing the capabilities of blockchain, our aim is to establish a secure, tamper-proof system that will empower individuals, institutions, and employers to effortlessly verify the legitimacy of NYSC certificates.”
