Nkechi Egerton-Idehen, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), highlighted the agency’s commitment to providing the nation with dependable internet services to drive innovation and progress in the technology sector.

During a news conference at the North-West Regional Office of NIGCOMSAT in Kaduna, Egerton-Idehen emphasized the agency’s determination to emerge as a leading provider of communication solutions not only for Nigeria but for the entire African continent.

Egerton-Idehen outlined ongoing restructuring efforts within NIGCOMSAT, stating, “We reassess our priorities to ensure that they flourish in the evolving Comtech industry, to compete effectively and contribute to the internally generated revenue of the country.” She described the transformation within NIGCOMSAT from an inefficient service provider to an energetic and focused industry player, determined to reshape its past narrative.

The two-day visit to Kaduna provided Egerton-Idehen with an opportunity to engage with stakeholders in the North West zone, covering states such as Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Jigawa, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina. She expressed the agency’s commitment to making NIGCOMSAT a source of national pride, with an empowered workforce and satisfied clients.

Egerton-Idehen emphasized NIGCOMSAT’s mandate as a communications satellite operator to bridge the digital divide by providing broadband connectivity to underserved populations. She stated, “We are more than ever committed to providing universal, ubiquitous, and cost-effective access to communications infrastructure throughout the country, striving for a Nigeria where the utilization of ICT impacts all spheres from agriculture, education, health, enterprise, etc.”

In response to a question about the involvement of security agencies in utilizing NIGSATCOM to address insecurity in the country, Egerton-Idehen acknowledged ongoing efforts to collaborate with them. She highlighted the agency’s capacity and expertise, expressing a readiness to work with security agencies to provide effective solutions.

“We have the capacity, we have the capability to do it,” Egerton-Idehen affirmed, underlining NIGCOMSAT’s potential to contribute significantly to addressing security concerns using its extensive coverage across Nigeria.
