NGX widens capital market access through WhatsApp investment channel

Nigerian Exchange Group Plc has expanded access to its NGX Invest platform with the launch of a dedicated WhatsApp subscription channel, giving retail and institutional investors another digital route to participate in primary market public offers.

The new channel allows investors to begin the subscription process by sending “Invest” to the designated NGX Invest contact number. Users can then follow interactive prompts to view eligible offerings and complete the required subscription steps through the messaging platform without downloading a separate application.

WhatsApp integrated into NGX Invest distribution network

Under the standardised process, investors select an accredited stockbroker through which their application is formally processed. This ensures that dealing member firms remain an essential part of the primary market transaction process.

The WhatsApp channel adds to NGX Invest’s wider distribution network, which connects issuers with market participants through more than 100 integrated access points.

These include stockbroking firms, commercial banks, fintech operators and mobile telecommunications providers connected through Application Programming Interface (API) infrastructure.

By incorporating WhatsApp into its primary market infrastructure, NGX Group is seeking to reduce operational barriers and extend access to investment products through a platform already widely used by investors.

For corporate issuers, the integration provides an additional distribution channel that can broaden retail participation and support capital-raising exercises.

Security remains central to digital investment access

Security remains a key consideration in the platform’s design. Although WhatsApp functions as the front-end interface, underlying investment transactions are routed through NGX Invest’s secure, regulated clearing and settlement infrastructure.

Investors have been advised to use only the platform’s official verified contact and avoid sharing passwords, PINs, one-time passwords (OTPs) or other sensitive credentials with third parties.

The move comes as digital participation across Nigeria’s capital market continues to expand, highlighting the importance of combining easier access with secure and regulated infrastructure.

The infrastructure provider said greater market access must be supported by “secure, transparent and regulated market infrastructure.”

NGX Invest supports digital primary market participation

NGX Invest is the Securities and Exchange Commission-approved electronic offering platform for public offers, rights issues and initial public offerings in Nigeria.

Since becoming operational in 2024, the platform has facilitated more than 23 primary market transactions and supported capital-raising activities valued at over N3 trillion across various corporate sectors.

The addition of WhatsApp further expands the platform’s digital distribution capabilities and reflects NGX Group’s strategy of using financial technology, strategic partnerships and open-market networks to broaden participation in Nigeria’s capital market.

By placing primary market investment access within an existing messaging environment while retaining regulated transaction infrastructure, the initiative seeks to make participation more accessible without removing the role of licensed market intermediaries.
