MTN Nigeria is embarking on a profound transformation, with the goal of evolving from a telecommunications company (telco) into a comprehensive technology entity, known as a TechCo, by 2025. This ambitious initiative was announced during the Texcellence conference, themed ‘Championing a Forward-thinking Africa’, organized by CWG Plc in Lagos.

According to Shodunke Shoyinka, Chief Information Officer at MTN Nigeria, the company is charting a course towards becoming a technology holding firm, signaling a departure from its current telco-centric identity.

“By 2025, we envision ourselves as a bona fide technology company, transcending our current telco status,” remarked Shoyinka.

As part of its trajectory towards TechCo status, MTN Nigeria recently introduced Meetings+, a user-friendly video conferencing platform developed in collaboration with Zoom and SpeechLogix. This innovative solution aims to redefine conventional business practices by providing SMEs with efficient and seamless virtual meeting capabilities.

Meetings+ offers flexible subscription plans, including daily, weekly, and monthly options bundled with mobile data, enabling users to conduct online engagements effortlessly. Moreover, the platform facilitates payments in Naira through MoMo or the MyMTN NG app, addressing challenges associated with US$ payment constraints.

Charles Okonkwo, General Manager of MTN Business, underscored the significance of Meetings+ in fostering a more connected and prosperous future for Nigerian businesses. He emphasized the partnership’s dedication to enhancing accessibility and efficiency in conducting online meetings, thereby driving progress.

Furthermore, Okonkwo highlighted that MTN’s collaboration with SpeechLogix and Zoom is aligned with the company’s digital transformation journey, aimed at reshaping the traditional business landscape and transitioning into a TechCo from a Telco.

Haitham El-Hanafi, Head of Global Sales at SpeechLogix, emphasized the platform’s potential to boost operators’ revenue. By combining Zoom’s video technology with SpeechLogix’s innovative modules, Meetings+ offers an all-in-one platform that can be deployed in less than 60 days.

This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in MTN’s digital evolution, propelling the company closer to its TechCo aspirations.
