CREDICORP Launches Digital Device Financing Scheme to Expand Youth Access to Technology

The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, a consumer credit initiative designed to improve access to laptops, internet-enabled devices, and other essential digital tools through affordable financing.

The programme, implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, forms part of the government’s broader strategy to promote digital inclusion, expand consumer credit access, and equip more Nigerians for participation in the digital economy.

Initiative Targets Digital Inclusion and Local Manufacturing

Launched in collaboration with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, the scheme provides eligible Nigerians with structured financing to acquire laptops and other digital devices needed for education, skills development, and productive work.

The initiative will initially focus on locally assembled laptops, with plans to expand while continuing to prioritise domestic manufacturing in support of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.

According to the government, the programme is expected to strengthen digital inclusion, improve productivity, promote technology-driven skills acquisition, and create new economic opportunities through responsible consumer lending.

Credit Ecosystem Key to Economic Growth

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said access to affordable consumer credit is essential for economic development and digital transformation.

He noted that the Federal Government is committed to building a sustainable credit ecosystem that enables individuals and businesses to acquire productive assets, improve livelihoods, and contribute to national economic growth.

Tijani commended President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of CREDICORP for driving the initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention that aligns with the administration’s ambition of growing Nigeria into a $1 trillion economy.

According to the minister, programmes such as C.L.I.C.K.D. demonstrate the government’s commitment to using technology and innovative financing models to bridge the digital divide and increase access to opportunities within the digital economy.

“That’s what President Bola Tinubu is doing. When he said he wants to create a $1 trillion economy, and there’s no other way to create that economy but what we’re here to launch today,” Tijani said.

The event also featured the symbolic presentation of laptops to selected beneficiaries.

CREDICORP to Distribute 1,000 Locally Assembled Laptops

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the corporation would provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible participants under the programme.

He explained that the initiative is designed to provide young Nigerians with the digital tools needed to enhance learning, build in-demand technology skills, and participate more effectively in the country’s growing digital economy.

According to Nwagba, sourcing the devices from local manufacturers also supports the Federal Government’s objectives of strengthening indigenous production and creating employment opportunities within Nigeria’s technology sector.

He disclosed that the rollout began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received laptops, while the remaining devices will be distributed to qualified participants across other states in phases.

Supporting Skills Development and Digital Participation

Nwagba said the programme is expected to help bridge Nigeria’s digital divide by improving access to technology, expanding opportunities for remote work, and enabling more young people to participate in technology-driven economic activities.

He added that the initiative forms part of CREDICORP’s broader efforts to expand access to affordable digital devices through consumer credit while supporting the development of a digitally skilled workforce capable of contributing to Nigeria’s long-term economic transformation.

The C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging digital technology, consumer financing, and local manufacturing to accelerate digital inclusion and strengthen participation in the country’s evolving digital economy.
