Nigeria: 10 Teams Shortlisted to Pitch their Ideas at EkoClimathon 1.0 Hackathon Grand Finale

Eko Innovation Centre, one of the leading tech hubs in Nigeria, curating events like Art of Technology Lagos, and The Lagos Smart Meter Hackathon amongst others with Eko Carbon, and Commodity, the foremost climate mitigation and carbon management company in collaboration with Generation Unlimited 9Ja, a new public-private youth partnership platform is changing the narrative around climate change by curating its first climate mitigation hackathon tagged EkoClimathon 1.0 with the aim of ideating and creating solutions that will build global solutions and mitigate the impact of Climate change.

EkoClimathon 1.0 Hackathon which was launched on the 8th of July 2022, had over 1000plus participants registering from across the continents in different focus areas, forming over 100plus teams.

A pitch session was held at the Eko innovation center from 3rd to 5th of August where the teams after their 3-week workathon came to pitch their ideas to a panel of selection jurors spanning the 6 focus areas of the hackathon.

A total of 82 teams pitched their ideas, concepts, and prototypes to over 24 selection jurors, who selected the top 10 teams with the best concepts for a pitch for the grand prize at the closing ceremony.

The top ten (10) teams have been trained, motivated, and stretched over the past three (3) weeks through brainstorming sessions with their mentors in the different focus areas.

The EkoClimathon 1.0 Hackathon will be wrapped up on the 26th of August 2022 at the Eko Innovation Centre, with players in the private and public sectors, innovators, government representatives, entrepreneurs, policymakers, media, Climate actors, Sustainability Specialists, investors, tech enthusiasts, tech players, and industry thought leaders in attendance.

At the closing ceremony, the shortlisted 10 Teams will be pitching their ideas to the 5 Final Jurors for a chance to win a $7,500 prize pool and an acceleration program with up to $50K equity investment to get their products ready for the market among other benefits.

EkoClimathon 1.0 aims to involve Nigerian innovators in creating international solutions that would aid in the achievement of the world’s climate goals. Stakeholder action in minimizing the long-term adverse effects and conditions of climate change will be encouraged by innovative solutions
