Bank of Ireland has appointed Niamh De Niese from Santander as its first Chief Digital and Architecture Officer, a newly-created role aimed at driving the bank’s digital strategy and IT architecture transformation.

De Niese’s primary focus will be on steering the bank’s digital initiatives and exploring the potential applications of emerging technologies while shaping future investments in this space.

With a background in leading digital transformations at Santander UK, Barclays, BNY Mellon, and Visa, including directing technology innovation labs at Visa, De Niese brings a wealth of industry experience to her new role.

Reporting directly to Group COO Ciarán Coyle, De Niese’s appointment underscores Bank of Ireland’s commitment to strengthening customer relationships and streamlining operations through continuous digital innovation.

Coyle expressed his confidence in De Niese’s ability to drive digital investment, innovation, and change at the bank, emphasizing the crucial role these initiatives play in executing the bank’s strategic vision.

De Niese’s arrival marks a significant milestone for Bank of Ireland as it continues to invest in advanced digital solutions to better serve its customers and stakeholders.
