Consolidated Bank Ghana Ltd. (CBG) has demonstrated its commitment to responsible business practices by becoming a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), a voluntary global initiative that promotes responsible business practices and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

By joining the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, CBG aligns itself with a global network of businesses and organizations dedicated to upholding 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.

These principles serve as a roadmap for organizations to integrate sustainability into their strategies and operations, fostering long-term value creation for both the company and society.

During the signing ceremony in Accra, Mr. Daniel Wilson Addo, the Managing Director of CBG, emphasized the bank’s unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable development goals and contributing to a more inclusive and prosperous future.

“I am delighted to announce that CBG is the first state-owned commercial bank in Ghana to become a member of the UNGC. This partnership is crucial because, as a bank, we understand the impact of the decisions we make today on the years to come.”

“As a member of the UN Global Compact, CBG joins other corporate organizations with a shared vision of accelerating progress towards sustainability. We will integrate Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) solutions into our internal operations and business activities, while also assisting our customers in building and sustaining resilient and sustainable businesses that benefit the world at large,” he stated.

Mr. Tolu Kwaku Lacroix, the Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Ghana, warmly welcomed CBG to the initiative, acknowledging the bank’s leadership in sustainability and ESG practices. He highlighted CBG’s implementation of the Ghana Sustainable Banking Principles and its commitment to fostering good governance practices among its clients and supporting capacity-building initiatives for stakeholders.

John Awuah, the CEO of the Ghana Association of Banks, praised CBG for promoting sustainability in the banking sector, commending the bank’s proactive approach in embracing responsible business practices.
