The Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA), has announced the suspension of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for bidding for the second new full service nationwide telecom licence which was opened on September 28th 2021.

In a statement, the Authority said it had “Received concerns and requests from several prospective bidders to delay the process and issue the RFP at a convenient time in the future,” which the ECA fully concurred.

The Ethiopian Communications Authority said it will relaunch the process in the near future.

The previous deadline for the request for proposals was 20 December. After licensing a consortium led by Vodafone’s Safaricom earlier this year, Ethiopia was hoping to attract a second group to help develop the local telecoms market.
