Ethiopia gig platform GoodayOn to train 5000 online workers

GoodayOn, an Addis Ababa-based digital marketing, and advertising agency has launched an Ethiopian platform for gig workers are recruiting 5,000 gig workers across Addis Ababa to improve their technical and soft skills. The digital platform helps connect freelancers with their customers and provides short-term services to recruit trainees in the areas of housekeeping, culinary, maintenance, electronic appliance repairs, construction finishing, and skills such as gypsum, aluminum works, and painting.

As part of the recruitment, trainees get listed on GoodayOn’s digital gigs connection platform. On completion of the training they then certification. Gig workers are priority listed for market exposure and linkages.

That training program looks to create jobs for young people enhance the competitiveness of Ethiopia’s industries implemented FirstConsult under the Bridges Ethiopia Programme. BRIDGES runs as a MasterCard Foundation’s 5-year initiative creating employment opportunities for men and women which will unlock the job creation potential of Industrial parks (IPs) and other enterprises.

Ethiopia’s continental program is mainly implemented by FirstConsult a consulting firm specialized in delivering practical and business-oriented solutions to the development of HR, business, and finance/investment sectors.

GoodayOn is an Amharic word meaning “business” or “errand”. GoodayOn’s platform can be accessed through a mobile app, both on IOS and Android. Thus far over 20,000 people have downloaded the app and 2500 service providers signed up on the platform. On average, over 80 gigs connections are done through GoodayOn every day. 700 trainees have been recruited to reach the 5000 goals within 6 months.

A report released by  Ethiopia’s Digital Economic is released by Ethiopian private investment Cepheus Growth Capital Partners, an Ethiopian private investment firm, shows seven gig-work sites matching individuals with work assignments.
