As part of its digital transformation project, Cape Verde is multiplying partnerships with other countries. After Senegal and their joint underwater fiber optic interconnection project, the archipelago has just joined forces with Portugal to promote technological innovation in the country.

The Cape Verdean Institute for the Promotion and Support of Companies “Cap Cabo Verde Digital” and Startup Madeira, a business incubator based in Madeira, Portugal, signed a cooperation agreement on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 to stimulate entrepreneurship and unite the two archipelagos in terms of digitization.

Stressing the importance of this signature, Pedro Lopes, Secretary of State for the Digital Economy of Cape Verde, said that it will make it possible to power young entrepreneurs who are in the field of technology, create more spaces for sharing and develop common projects”.

It should be mentioned that the cooperation agreement comes at a time when Cape Verde is under construction in the digital sector. The country is preparing to host its technology park worth €40 million, which, according to the government, will boost the ICT sector by positioning Cape Verde as an international service center and as a gateway to Africa for major international technology companies.

The same goes for Madeira Island, which is also committed to research and innovation. It is with this in mind that the government of the region launched the Madeira Startup in 1997 to offer real support to project promoters and work for the creation and modernization of companies in all economic sectors.

Thus, with their common experience, Cape Verde and Madeira plan through this agreement to identify future synergies of action and strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystems in both regions, as well as to promote the growth of innovative and digital companies in various fields.
