Tax compliance platform Numeral raises $100m in Series C funding

AI-powered sales tax compliance platform Numeral has raised $100 million in a Series C funding round led by Insight Partners, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator and Uncork Capital.

The company said the new capital will support product development, expansion into industries including software, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale, and continued hiring across engineering, sales, marketing and product teams.

Numeral targets growing tax compliance complexity

The latest funding comes as sales tax regulations continue to evolve alongside changes in how businesses sell and deliver products and services.

In the United States, California recently enacted legislation that will extend sales and use tax to certain prewritten software, including software-as-a-service (SaaS) and software delivered electronically or accessed remotely, beginning in 2027.

For companies operating across multiple states and countries, regulatory changes can create an ongoing need to identify new tax obligations, monitor requirements and update compliance systems.

“Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models,” said Sam Ross, co-founder and CEO of Numeral.

“Businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace as rules and requirements change across jurisdictions, without adding more manual work for their teams. We’re building Numeral to provide that foundation, backed by tax expertise and service that customers can rely on.”

Transaction volumes surge as platform expands

Numeral said it has recorded significant growth ahead of the Series C, including a 327% year-over-year increase in total transaction volume.

The company expects its tax engine to process more than 80 million transactions, reflecting increasing demand for automated tax calculation and compliance infrastructure.

Its customer base is also expanding across a wider range of industries, with notable growth among software, distribution and manufacturing businesses facing changing regulatory and operational requirements.

Rebecca Liu-Doyle, managing director at Insight Partners, said the growing complexity of sales tax requirements was increasing the importance of reliable compliance infrastructure.

“Sales tax is mission-critical to get right, and the complexity is only growing as regulations expand into new products and markets,” she said.

“We tracked this space closely and saw Numeral consistently deliver — customers repeatedly pointed to the company’s reliability, accuracy, and high level of service. With AI enabling the team to bring sophisticated tax and compliance infrastructure within reach of businesses that previously lacked access to tax expertise, Numeral has a strong foundation for continued growth, and we’re excited to back them through this next stage.”

Platform covers sales tax compliance lifecycle

Numeral provides businesses with tools covering several stages of the sales tax compliance lifecycle, including nexus monitoring, tax registrations, tax calculation, filings, remittance and exemption certificate management.

The platform also supports VAT and GST compliance across more than 90 countries and integrates with more than 40 billing systems, financial platforms and enterprise resource planning systems.

According to the company, businesses using Numeral can reduce the time spent on tax filings and registrations by up to 80%, while manual spreadsheet work and filing errors can be reduced by as much as 95%.

Its exemption certificate management offering can save companies up to 400 hours annually. Numeral said that when existing certificates are transferred to its platform, between 30% and 40% often fail validation, potentially identifying compliance issues that had previously gone undetected.

“Our customers want to know that their tax obligations are being handled accurately while still having access to a person when a complex issue comes up,” Ross said.

“That expectation shapes how we build the platform and how we support each customer. As Numeral moves into additional industries and serves larger businesses, we’ll continue investing in both the technology and the tax expertise behind it.”

Numeral expands accounting firm partnerships

The company is also strengthening its relationship with accounting firms through a new accounting partner programme.

Under the programme, firms can refer clients to Numeral, resell its platform, use the technology to deliver their own services or support clients during implementation.

The arrangement is designed to allow accounting professionals to remain involved in clients’ tax decisions while providing them with support and other benefits tied to engagement and growth.

Numeral combines a deterministic tax engine with artificial intelligence and automation to handle high-volume tax compliance activities. Customers and partners can also access in-house tax specialists for questions and more complex requirements.

The company said the combination of technology and human expertise allows it to serve businesses directly while working alongside the accounting firms and advisers they already use.

AI reshapes tax compliance infrastructure

Arvind Ayyala, partner at Geodesic Capital, said businesses have traditionally had to choose between manual tax compliance processes and software that still leaves significant operational responsibilities with internal teams.

“Tax compliance has traditionally forced businesses to choose between expensive manual work and software that still leaves them carrying the operational burden,” Ayyala said.

“Numeral is changing that model by combining deep tax expertise with AI-native infrastructure to deliver tax compliance as an outcome. We are excited to support Sam, Matt, and the team as they build a category-defining business.”

Founded in 2023 by Ross and Chief Technology Officer Matt DuVall, Numeral previously raised $35 million in a Series B round in September 2025.

Its existing investors include Benchmark, Uncork Capital, Y Combinator, Mantis, FCVC and Mayfield. The latest funding gives Numeral additional capital to expand its tax compliance technology, broaden industry coverage and scale its team as businesses face increasingly complex tax obligations across jurisdictions.
