Lloyds Bank has pioneered a new initiative in the UK, allowing its customers to facilitate their bank account application by utilizing the chip embedded in their passport through the Lloyds mobile app.
Utilizing Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, the app scans the passport’s chip, expediting the ID verification process. This innovative feature automatically populates crucial data fields such as name, title, date of birth, gender, and country of birth.
Surina Somal, Head of Product, Packaged Bank Accounts & Transformation at Lloyds Bank, emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to enhance the banking experience, stating, “Unlocking technology is key in making it easier to bank with us. Using existing technology within passports, customers can open and complete their bank account application on their phone. It’s the first of many updates we are making to our banking apps over the next few months, to give our customers the best possible experience.”
