Absa Bank Kenya has joined forces with Visa to deliver digital payment solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Through the introduction of the Absa Mobi Tap Solution, the bank offers a payment feature that enables small businesses to accept card-based payments directly from customers’ Android smartphones.
To begin accepting payments, merchants will need to download the Mobi Tap app.
Elizabeth Wasunna, Absa Bank’s Business Banking Director, expressed excitement about the digitally-led bank’s ability to introduce this innovative and cost-effective solution for merchants’ day-to-day operations.
She added, “The new solution will facilitate faster, easier, and more secure contactless payments, supporting the adoption of a cashless society that benefits all stakeholders.”
This partnership represents another significant milestone in Absa’s journey to provide cutting-edge and customized solutions for its customers.
Eva Ngigi-Sarwari, Visa Kenya’s Country Manager, highlighted the impact of the Absa Mobi Tap Solution on financial inclusivity. By granting underbanked or unbanked SMEs greater access to digital payments, the solution contributes to increasing financial participation.
Ngigi-Sarwari noted, “Given Kenya’s mobile-first landscape, this solution leverages the widespread ownership of mobile phones, enabling sellers to utilize the technology they already possess.”
The collaboration between Absa and Visa aims to empower SMEs by equipping them with accessible and efficient digital payment capabilities, fostering their growth and contribution to the economy.
