Smile Communications has announced its expansion in Zanzibar, providing ultra-fast 4G LTE mobile broadband internet services across the Island.
The telco has operations in Tanzania, Nigeria, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
“Following Smile Tanzania‘s recent investment in network expansion, we are excited to bring the best 4G LTE broadband internet services to customers in Zanzibar,” said Zuweina Farah Smile’s Country Manager.
Also commenting, Ahmad Farroukh, Smile Group’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “Dar es Salaam was the first city in Africa to experience true 4G LTE when Smile launched its internet services there in May 2013. Today, the people of Zanzibar can celebrate another first, enabled by the latest 4G LTE technology, when they connect to Smile internet with data speeds of up to 50Mbps.”
Over the past two years, Smile has invested in redesigning and expanding its network to offer customers improved internet services with even faster data speeds.
“The investments have laid a foundation for a more digitally enabled economy, in line with the government’s digital transformation strategy,” comments Farah.
“We are excited that people living in and visiting Zanzibar will now experience Smile’s best and fastest mobile broadband internet. And we want to thank all our stakeholders for their continued support while strengthening our operations and expanding our network. We are and stay committed to our people in Zanzibar and Tanzania and aim to continue to offer the best 4G LTE broadband internet services,” concluded Farah.
The new technology builds on the growing footprint of Smile’s network, which has been activated in 7 regions until the end of 2021.
Early January 2022, Smile’s expansion plans took shape, and the company has already activated sites in two additional cities, including Zanzibar, Pwani, Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma, Mwanza, Mbeya, Kilimanjaro, and Arusha, with more cities and regions scheduled to be switched on in coming months.
