London-based regtech firm, Napier, has hired former HSBC chief operating officer Andy Maguire as an advisory board member.

Maguire joins fintech after spending the bulk of his career 16 years at Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Between 2014 and 2020 he worked at HSBC, leading its global operations, before moving back to BCG part-time.

Maguire remains chair of global banking and managing director at BCG. He is also chairman of the board at UK core banking firm Thought Machine.

Napier offers an AI-led platform for “intelligent” anti-money laundering (AML) and trade compliance. The firm claims to have doubled its annual revenue in 2020 and plans to grow its roster of “global customers”.

Napier says their new advisor will use his “vast industry knowledge” to provide insight and strategic direction as the company continues a “rapid global expansion”.

Julian Dixon, Napier CEO, says Maguire will give his firm “an immeasurable edge” in taking things “to the next level”.

“He’s highly respected within the finance sector and will bring a number of qualities to our Advisory Board that will only benefit us moving forward, so it really is a major coup.”

On his appointment, Maguire says Napier is “very much at the forefront of that digital arms race”.

He adds: “This is a very exciting time for the development of AI-led solutions in the fight against financial crime.

“Now is the time to be nimble, so I’m looking forward to being part of the great work that Napier is doing to transform AML compliance through technology.”
