The Zambian government has teamed up with Liquid Intelligent Technologies to speed up digital transformation across the country by launching a new data center in Zambia. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to this effect.
This is a welcome step as the data center will also address the high rate of data hosting requests made by local businesses and businesses looking to upscale. Also providing low-cost connectivity to all Zambians.
The MOU includes a plan to expand Liquid’s fibre network, fusing more towns in the country. The construction of physical infrastructures to facilitate the link between schools and clinics through Liquid’s network will be initiated.
The Liquid Group will also assist Zambia’s government in its digital services by recommending public and private cloud services and cybersecurity solutions.
The MOU was signed on the 7th of March at the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Doha. Hon. Felix Mutati, Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, and Nic Rudnick, Group Deputy Chairman of Liquid Intelligent Technologies, signed the agreement.
Hardy Pemhiwa, President and Group CEO of Cassava Technologies show support for Zambia’s digital transformation efforts. He said, “We accredited the significant efforts that the Zambian government is making to further the country’s digital transformation and share His Excellency, President Hichilema’s vision for the growth of Zambia’s digital economy. Given the conducive investment environment, we are devoted to further investments in Zambia’s digital infrastructure.”
Recent statistics predict that the African data center market will surpass $3 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate of over 12%. The launch of the new data centre in Zambia will facilitate growth and hasten the nation’s digital transformation.
In summary, the MOU between Liquid Intelligent Technologies and the Zambian government will enable the launch of a new data centre in Zambia and the expansion of Liquid’s fibre network. This will provide authentic and low-cost connectivity to all Zambians and support the digitization of government services through the provision of public and private cloud services and cybersecurity solutions. The efforts made will aid the nation’s digital transformation and contribute to the development of the African data centre market.
