Telkom South Africa has announced the appointment of Serame Taukobong as Group CEO Designate with effect from 01 October 2021.
Taukobong will assume the role of Group CEO at Telkom following his predecessor Sipho Maseko’s official exit on 30 June 2022.
Maseko had been at the helm of Telkom since 1 April 2013 at a time when the organisation faced severe challenges. He will help ensure the orderly transition into the role during the remainder of his tenure, Telkom said.
Making the announcement, Sello Moloko, Chairperson of Telkom said the organisation was pleased that its extensive search process confirmed the calibre of Telkom’s people.
“Taukobong is a seasoned executive, with deep experience in the ITC sector in South Africa and the continent. His appointment ensures continuity of our value unlock strategy,” said Moloko.
Commenting on his appointment, Taukobong said having worked under Sipho Maseko’s leadership for 3 years: “’I know I will be taking over a solid business with a capable and committed team.”
“The team and I are conscious of the challenges that lie ahead and are committed to attracting and retaining the best people, winning in the market place and delivering value for shareholders,” he concluded.
Under Maseko’s tenure, Telkom’s mobile business grew to become the third-largest in South Africa, with more than 15 million customers generating R20 billion revenue.
