Pesapal Tanzania has joined forces with Airtel Money to integrate Airtel Money as an additional payment option for all merchants using Pesapal Point of Sale (PoS) machines.

This partnership will empower Airtel Money users to make payments at any Pesapal-affiliated merchant using their Airtel Money accounts, while simultaneously enabling all Pesapal merchants to accept payments directly from Airtel Money customers.

Furthermore, Pesapal has extended the Airtel Money payment option to the Pesapal online payments gateway, allowing over 300 Pesapal-supported merchants to accept Airtel Money payments.

Under this collaboration, businesses utilizing Pesapal payment machines will receive payments through Airtel Money, in addition to Visa and Mastercard transactions.

Speaking at the launch event hosted at Wood Berry Café, a Pesapal merchant in Dar es Salaam, Pesapal Country Manager Ms. Bupe Mwakalunda highlighted the importance of supporting merchants during Tanzania’s transition towards a cashless economy. She described the partnership as a significant step towards fostering a digital lifestyle and bringing innovative financial services closer to Tanzanian customers.

Airtel Money Director, Andrew Rugamba, expressed that this partnership aims to enhance convenience for Airtel Money customers by enabling seamless, cost-effective payments for goods and services. He emphasized that businesses and online merchants can now effortlessly serve their customers through Airtel Money, with all funds collected through Pesapal merchants promptly settled into the merchant’s bank account.

According to the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), Africa accounted for a remarkable 70 percent of the $1 trillion in mobile phone transactions in 2021. This collaboration between Airtel Money and Pesapal aligns with the growing trend towards digital payments in the region.
