Nigeria’s Federal Government and Google Join Forces to Create One Million Digital Jobs

President Bola Tinubu has affirmed the Federal Government of Nigeria’s commitment to collaborating with global tech giant Google Incorporated to generate one million digital jobs in the country.

A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications & Strategy, Dele Alake, revealed that the President conveyed this assurance during a meeting with Google Global Vice President, Richard Gingras, at the State House on Friday.

Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria boasts a pool of creative and talented young individuals who are eager to learn, particularly in this era of digital revolution. He acknowledged Google’s capabilities and tools, stating that they are essential for enabling the youth to thrive.

“I am delighted that Google is willing to partner with us. You have heeded our call for digital innovation and support for our youth. Your commitment to creating one million digital jobs in Nigeria aligns perfectly with our efforts to promote the digital economy. We stand ready to provide you with all the necessary support to ensure a mutually beneficial corporate responsibility. Despite the challenges, we have already initiated economic reforms,” said Tinubu.

Regarding Google’s role in promoting free speech, freedom of the press, and democracy through its platforms, Tinubu emphasized the importance of upholding these values in the interest of the public.

“It is of utmost importance to protect and uphold free press and free speech. We are fully dedicated to supporting a society that embraces these principles,” he asserted.

Gingras expressed his inspiration by the creativity and talent demonstrated by the Nigerian youth who are actively embracing technology and digital tools to enhance access to information and foster democracy.

He assured the President that Google has a profound interest in Nigeria and is prepared to extend its support to the Federal Government.

During the meeting, Gingras outlined various capabilities of Google, including advancements in Artificial Intelligence and other digital innovations that empower young individuals to become digital entrepreneurs. The collaboration between Nigeria’s government and Google aims to leverage these technologies to create a thriving digital job market and foster economic growth in the country.
