Nigerian Exchange Group CEO Takes Helm as CSCS Chairman

Mr. Temi Popoola, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), has been elected as the Chairman of Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS), effective April 1, 2024, succeeding Oscar Onyema after his 13-year tenure as chairman.

In a statement released by the NGX Group on Monday, it was highlighted that Popoola brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, boasting a seasoned background as a financial expert with notable achievements in global market growth and operational insight.

Previously serving as the CEO of the Nigerian Exchange Limited within the NGX Group, Popoola led the exchange through various strategic milestones.

Expressing his sentiments on the appointment, Popoola stated, “As I step into the role of chairman at CSCS, I’m honoured and humbled by the opportunity to guide this esteemed organisation to new heights of success and impact. With a steadfast dedication to our mission and by building on the very strong foundation that has been laid, I am committed to working with my colleagues on the board, management, and staff to drive growth, foster innovation, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and excellence. Collaborating with all our stakeholders, I am confident that we will chart a course toward continued excellence, delivering value to our clients, shareholders, and the broader financial community.”

Joining Popoola on the board are Samuel Onukwue, Chairman of the Association of Securities Dealing Houses of Nigeria, and Nonso Okpala, CEO of VFD Group.

The NGX Group’s statement highlighted that their addition to the board is expected to enrich the quality and collegial decision-making process at the leadership level of the company.

Mr. Haruna Jalo-Waziri, the CEO of Central Securities Clearing System Plc, welcomed the new members to the firm’s board, expressing confidence that their addition will further enhance the quality of decision-making at the leadership level.

Jalo-Waziri also extended sincere gratitude to Ms. Tinuade Awe, Mr. Seyi Owoturo, and Mrs. Tairat Tijani, who retired from the board alongside Mr. Onyema, for their outstanding service to CSCS.
