Vitel Expands Airtime, Data Reach Through OPay, Moniepoint Partnership

Vitel Wireless has partnered with OPay and Moniepoint to broaden access to airtime and mobile data services across Nigeria through digital banking platforms and wallets.

The collaboration will allow millions of users to purchase airtime and data bundles directly from their fintech accounts, strengthening the link between financial technology and mobile connectivity services.

According to Vitel Wireless, the initiative is aimed at improving access to telecom services, particularly in underserved and rural communities, by leveraging the wide customer reach and payment infrastructure of both fintech firms.

Chief Operating Officer of Vitel Wireless, Chudi Nwabueze, described the partnership as a strategic move to deepen integration between financial services and telecommunications in Nigeria.

He noted that the agreement extends the company’s existing collaboration model with conventional financial institutions such as Fidelity Bank and Zenith Bank into the fast-growing fintech ecosystem.

“Vitel Wireless continues to showcase the close collaboration between financial services and telecom services by extending its partnership model with traditional banks to fintech giants such as OPay and Moniepoint,” Nwabueze said.

He explained that the integration enables customers to seamlessly top up airtime and subscribe to data plans using existing banking apps and fintech wallets, helping to eliminate access barriers and simplify the user experience.

Also speaking, Product Marketing Manager at Vitel Wireless, Odera Ben-Chiobi, said the initiative supports the company’s broader objective of expanding affordable connectivity nationwide.

“By partnering with leading fintech platforms like OPay and Moniepoint, we are bringing telecom services closer to millions of Nigerians, particularly in rural areas where access has traditionally been limited,” she stated.

Ben-Chiobi added that the partnership also contributes to financial inclusion by combining telecom access with digital payment services to create a more accessible and efficient ecosystem for users.

Vitel Wireless currently operates through an infrastructure-sharing arrangement with MTN Nigeria, allowing the company to utilise shared radio infrastructure across the country to support nationwide service delivery.

The company said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment among all partners to promote inclusive growth, strengthen digital access, and enable wider participation in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
