United Bank for Africa (UBA) has introduced the AfriGo Card, a domestic card scheme designed to enhance naira-denominated transactions and strengthen financial inclusion in Nigeria.

Launched in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), AfriGo serves as an alternative to international card schemes, providing customers with a secure, cost-effective, and locally tailored payment solution.

Enhancing Financial Accessibility and Innovation

UBA’s Group Head of Retail and Digital Banking, Shamsideen Fashola, emphasized the bank’s commitment to driving financial innovation and accessibility with the introduction of AfriGo. He highlighted that the card is designed to cater to a broad spectrum of Nigerians, including students, small business owners, artisans, and market traders.

“With AfriGo, we are providing an affordable and secure payment option that supports everyday transactions for all Nigerians,” Fashola stated. “Its advanced security features, potential for biometric authentication, and offline transaction capability make it an essential tool in promoting a cashless economy.”

Key Features and Benefits of AfriGo

AfriGo offers a range of features that prioritize convenience and security for users. These include:

  • Chip-and-PIN security for enhanced fraud protection
  • Seamless ATM and POS payments across Nigeria
  • 24/7 access to funds for improved financial flexibility
