Stable Policies and Rural Connectivity Drive Surge in Telecom Investments in Nigeria — CIDG

Nigeria’s telecommunications sector is witnessing an unprecedented surge in both local and international investments, fueled by a stable regulatory framework and accelerated broadband penetration, according to the Coalition for Inclusive Digital Growth (CIDG).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the coalition credited the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for spearheading rural internet rollout and nationwide infrastructure expansion, describing the efforts as a catalyst for economic growth in previously underserved communities.

Peter Ezza, President of CIDG, highlighted that under the leadership of Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, the NCC has licensed additional infrastructure providers and overseen the deployment of more base stations. This, he noted, has significantly narrowed Nigeria’s connectivity gap and enhanced digital inclusion.

“Millions of rural dwellers now have access to online education, digital agriculture platforms, and e-commerce solutions that link them to broader markets,” Ezza said. “Investors are drawn to environments where there is regulatory stability, security, and clear growth potential. The NCC has provided strong policy direction, created incentives for network expansion, and upheld industry standards that continue to make Nigeria an attractive hub for telecoms and technology investments.”

Beyond physical infrastructure, the coalition emphasized that the Commission’s reforms are preparing the industry for 5G deployment, fintech integration, e-commerce expansion, and enhanced cybersecurity frameworks — key enablers for Nigeria’s digital economy.

CIDG further commended the NCC’s consumer awareness campaigns in rural areas, noting that they have strengthened public trust, improved online safety knowledge, and encouraged greater participation in the digital ecosystem.

Reiterating the importance of rural internet expansion, the coalition urged the Commission to sustain its momentum, stressing that universal connectivity will be vital to achieving Nigeria’s economic growth targets, poverty reduction goals, and inclusive digital transformation agenda.
