The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is poised to present its strategic vision for the Nigerian capital market at the upcoming Second Capital Market Committee (CMC) Meeting.

Scheduled for August 14 in Lagos, this meeting is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to enhance the capital market’s role in fostering economic growth and development. According to a statement released by the SEC, Director General Emomotimi Agama will outline the commission’s initiatives to attract investments, enhance market efficiency, and safeguard investor interests.

“This meeting is a pivotal moment for shaping the future of our capital market. We are dedicated to creating an investment environment that champions innovation and sustainability while ensuring robust protection for investors,” the statement emphasized.

The CMC meeting will gather key stakeholders, including CEOs from registered capital market firms, brokers, dealers, investment advisers, custodians, and fund managers. Discussions will address the current state of the Nigerian capital market, the regulatory framework, and strategies for future advancement.

Participants will review reports from technical committees and assess market infrastructure, with a focus on emerging trends.

The Capital Market Committee, a collaborative industry body comprising the SEC and various market operators, facilitates dialogue and cooperation within the sector.

“This meeting offers a crucial opportunity to address significant issues affecting market organization and future growth,” stated an SEC representative. “Our aim is to ensure a vibrant and forward-looking capital market that effectively serves all stakeholders,” the statement concluded.
