The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced today that it will extend its contactless passport application system to select European countries, aiming to simplify the passport renewal and acquisition process for Nigerians living abroad.
In a statement issued from Abuja by Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, NIS Comptroller General Kemi Nandap confirmed that the new system will be available in Europe starting February 7. Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom and Ireland are set to be the first beneficiaries of this expansion. This move marks the second phase of the initiative, following the system’s successful launch in Canada on November 5, 2024.
Nandap highlighted that the contactless passport application, currently available on the Google Play Store as the NIS Mobile app, is specifically designed to enable Nigerians to renew their passports without the need to visit a passport center for biometric enrollment.
Reaffirming the agency’s dedication to modern and efficient service delivery, Nandap underscored NIS’s commitment to providing innovative solutions that cater to Nigerians worldwide.
