The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has taken steps to enhance National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment across the country by approving the deployment of additional enrolment systems. This decision aligns with the commitment of Abisoye Odusote-Coker, the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, NIMC highlighted that these newly installed enrolment devices are operational in all states. The systems aim to reduce the time spent by applicants and increase the daily number of individuals attended to. In a bid to monitor and evaluate the enrolment and modification exercises, monitoring teams have been dispatched to various centres nationwide.

The statement, signed by Kayode Adegoke, the Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, emphasized the Director General’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against extortion and unethical practices. Odusote-Coker warned that any staff found engaging in extortion would face appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with constitutional provisions and existing Public Service Rules.

To facilitate the reporting of any extortion incidents, NIMC provided official channels for applicants, including a phone line (08155015388), another phone line (07002255646), and email addresses (ieu@nimc.gov.ng, nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng).

Despite recording an average enrolment slowdown in recent months, with 104.16 million NINs issued in 2023, NIMC remains focused on achieving its mandate. The monthly average enrolment of 844,167 fell short of the Federal Government’s target of 2.5 million registrations per month. To address waiting times at enrolment centres, NIMC has also unveiled plans to equip its field offices, aiming for a more efficient enrolment process.
