MTN Group reaffirmed its commitment to driving digital transformation and fostering inclusive growth during the 11th South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission held in Cape Town, South Africa. The event underscored the ongoing partnership between Africa’s two largest economies, offering a platform to accelerate collaboration in key areas of mutual interest.
The MTN delegation was led by Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita, accompanied by MTN Nigeria’s CEO Karl Toriola and Chairman Dr. Ernest Ndukwe.
The Bi-National Commission brought together influential stakeholders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCRF), Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani, and South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition Hon. Parks Tau.
During the event, MTN’s leadership engaged in constructive talks with President Tinubu and Minister Tijani. These discussions centered on Nigeria’s ongoing structural reforms and the vital role of the digital economy in driving inclusive development. MTN expressed its full support for these reforms, emphasizing their capacity to create opportunities and transform lives across the nation.
“We believe that Nigeria’s structural reforms, aligned with a shared vision for digital transformation, are key to driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth. We are committed to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders to ensure these reforms have a tangible and positive impact on the lives of people and businesses,” said Toriola.
MTN Nigeria, a subsidiary of the MTN Group, represents approximately 27% of the Group’s subscribers and 23% of its service revenue. The company is also in the process of building West Africa’s largest data centre, reflecting its strong dedication to advancing Nigeria’s digital agenda and fortifying the socio-economic relationship between South Africa and Nigeria.
The Commission also marked a significant achievement with the announcement of a simplified visa application processfor Nigerian tourists visiting South Africa. This initiative was hailed as a major step in enhancing cultural and economic exchanges, demonstrating the tangible results of deeper cooperation between the two countries.
