On Thursday, Meta announced the introduction of its AI assistant, Meta AI, now available in seven Sub-Saharan African countries. This launch includes Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, marking a significant milestone in AI accessibility and functionality.

Meta AI, powered by the advanced Llama 3 model, aims to transform how users interact on digital platforms, offering enhanced creativity, productivity, and connectivity options. Available for free, the AI can be utilized across several applications including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

Users can leverage Meta AI for various purposes such as navigating feeds, initiating chats, performing searches, and more without needing to switch between apps. This integration provides a seamless user experience, allowing access to real-time information effortlessly.

Mark Zuckerberg, in a statement, highlighted the capabilities of Meta AI: “Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI. We believe Meta AI is now the most intelligent AI assistant available for free use. To enhance its intelligence, we have integrated real-time knowledge from Google and Bing into the responses. We’re also making it more accessible across our apps.”

The newly introduced features of Meta AI include creative tools that allow users to animate images, apply new styles, or transform them into GIFs for sharing. These features aim to unlock new creative potentials for users across Meta’s platforms.

This expansion follows the initial announcement at the 2023 Meta Connect, promising a more interconnected and innovative way for users worldwide to engage with AI technology. Now, with its launch in these seven countries, Meta AI is set to redefine digital interactions for millions of Africans.
