The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, has partnered with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to organise an Industrial/Professional Training Programme for dispatch riders and delivery drivers across the State.
In his keynote address at the opening ceremony of the event which was held at the Institute’s headquarters in Oshodi, Mr. Kamar Olowoshago, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assenting to the programme, noting that the collaboration will enhance productivity and move the country forward in all ramifications.
Olowoshago said: “Today’s epoch-making event is a well-thought-out training session that will not only certify the participants but improve their professionalism as well as regulate the logistics sector of the economy”.
In her goodwill message, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI), said the landmark event with the theme, “Enhancing Professionalism in Courier and Logistics Services” is indeed a testimony of the Lagos State Government’s resolve and determination to partner the organised formal and private sector in transport delivery services in the State.
The General Manager noted that a driver’s main responsibility is to safely transport either goods or passengers from one location to another, therefore the Institute has compiled various educative training topics to provide resourceful material that will enhance qualitative education of drivers as part of the solution to economic growth and development.
Dr. Julius Anjorin, the Director, Nigerian Postal Institute (NPI), while appreciating the Lagos State Government’s positive gesture about the programme, noted that the event which is first of its kind was flagged off in Lagos State because the State is known for excellence and pace-setting activities.
His words: “Since the advent of the logistics industry, there has never been a partnership like this one and we are saying that this partnership has come to stay. The training will go around the country and I am assuring all participants that whatever you will learn here will have a great and positive impact on your job, organisation, the logistics industry in general, Lagos State, as well as the entire country”.
In her contribution, Mrs. Funmilayo Ogun, the Director of Operations, Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), said “the dispatch riders and delivery drivers are the last-mile delivery who interact with the client and how they present themselves reflects on the organisation. Therefore, positivity should always be portrayed at all times whenever they are discharging their duties”.
Speaking in the same vein, Mr. Gideon Shonde Oludotun, the General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD); an arm of NIPOST, said that the task of a dispatch rider is both operational and administrative as they are the image carrier and maker of the organisation they represent.
He also assured the participants that at the end of the training session, they would have gotten new knowledge that will add value to their chosen profession.
