Globacom Launches Nationwide Network Expansion to Elevate Service Quality

Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has embarked on an ambitious nationwide network expansion initiative, aligning with conditions set by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) following the regulator’s approval of a 50% end-user tariff adjustment.

The company announced that it is intensifying efforts to enhance service delivery, ensuring subscribers continue to enjoy value-driven experiences across its voice and data offerings.

Recent upgrades have seen the deployment of new base transceiver stations (BTS) to underserved areas and densification in high-demand zones to improve coverage and capacity. In addition, Glo is actively relocating fibre infrastructure in regions impacted by large-scale road construction, with areas such as Auchi–Okene, Benin–Ekpoma, Lafia–Akwanga, Minna–Abuja, and Funtua–Gusau among those affected.

“In light of the challenges posed by uncoordinated roadworks and vandalism, we’ve undertaken the costly but necessary task of relocating and reinforcing fibre routes to ensure seamless connectivity,” the company stated.

The operator is nearing the completion of hundreds of new site deployments across Nigeria. In 2025 alone, thousands of 4G LTE stations have been installed in key cities and regions, with hundreds more set to follow in the coming months.

Globacom also reported substantial investments in boosting backhaul capacity through fibre and microwave links, alongside core network upgrades to support the expansion. These enhancements are expected to translate into faster data speeds, broader coverage, and improved overall user experience.

Over the next 12 months, the telco aims to roll out more than 1,000 new sites, focusing on strengthening its 4G LTE footprint and connecting key hub sites via fibre for increased network reliability.

As part of its environmental sustainability drive, Globacom is scaling the use of hybrid power solutions, transitioning from generator-based power to battery systems across its network locations. This move is targeted at reducing carbon emissions and operational costs.

Despite the positive strides, the company expressed concern over persistent vandalism of telecom infrastructure, calling for more robust protection of critical national assets.
