FirstBank Enhances Mobile Banking with Facial Biometric Authentication

FirstBank, a leading financial services provider in West Africa, has launched an advanced facial biometric authentication feature on its mobile banking app, FirstMobile, reinforcing its commitment to secure, seamless, and inclusive digital banking.

The new facial recognition functionality enables customers to register or activate FirstMobile using facial verification, eliminating the need for a physical card or traditional credentials. It also features anti-spoofing technology to ensure high-level protection against fraudulent access.

Designed to serve a broad spectrum of users, the upgrade particularly benefits:

  • New and diaspora customers without cards
  • Individuals with lost, expired, or inactive cards
  • Customers who prefer cardless banking
  • Users facing card authentication challenges

With this innovation, customers can effortlessly access core services such as fund transfers, bill payments, and account management, all while enjoying enhanced security and convenience.

“These new services now live on FirstMobile will undoubtedly enhance our customers’ digital experience,” said Chukwuma Ezirim, Group Executive, E-Business and Retail Products Division at FirstBank.

Beyond facial authentication, FirstMobile now includes:

  • Instantly issued virtual credit cards for secure online shopping
  • In-app credit card activation for immediate use
  • Salary advance options with a three-month repayment plan

The upgrades mark another milestone in FirstBank’s ongoing digital transformation agenda, aimed at simplifying financial access and improving service delivery across all customer segments.

“FirstBank is focused on continuously innovating to delight our customers,” Ezirim added. “We are leveraging cutting-edge technologies to make banking faster, safer, and more accessible. Every update is designed to deepen trust and improve the overall customer experience.”

With a legacy of over 130 years, FirstBank remains at the forefront of Nigeria’s banking evolution, driven by customer-centric innovation, financial inclusion, and robust cybersecurity protocols that safeguard digital transactions.
