In a recent meeting between the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the management team of MTN Nigeria, led by CEO Karl Toriola, the FIRS assured businesses of a conducive tax environment.

Dr. Zacch Adedeji affirmed FIRS’s dedication to facilitating business growth by eliminating obstacles for corporate entities, aligning with the directive of President Bola Tinubu, who appointed Adedeji as the acting executive chairman of FIRS in September.

Adedeji highlighted ongoing restructuring efforts within FIRS, resulting in the establishment of a one-stop shop for taxpayers based on their turnover thresholds. This initiative aims to streamline tax payment processes, particularly for large taxpayers like MTN Nigeria, ensuring the efficient handling of tax matters, including Company Income Tax and Value Added Tax.

Furthermore, Adedeji emphasized the elimination of redundant communication from various FIRS units, enhancing clarity and efficiency in taxpayer interactions. He emphasized FIRS’s commitment to providing exemplary service to taxpayers, acknowledging the symbiotic relationship between FIRS and taxpayers.

Expressing support for government initiatives, Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, pledged the company’s commitment to increasing tax revenue and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth. Toriola reiterated MTN Nigeria’s history of compliance with tax obligations and its readiness to collaborate with FIRS and the government to address national challenges.

Toriola underscored MTN Nigeria’s understanding of the nation’s economic challenges and its willingness to partner in efforts to strengthen the economy.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship between FIRS and businesses like MTN Nigeria, ensuring a conducive business environment and driving economic prosperity in Nigeria.
