The Federal Ministry of Finance has officially inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee to strengthen transparency and accountability within the public sector.

In a statement released on Monday, Mohammed Manga, the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, emphasized the importance of the initiative. “The Federal Ministry of Finance has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in the public service with the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit Committee,” the statement read.

During the inauguration ceremony held in Abuja, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, described the initiative as a crucial stride toward fostering ethical conduct and good governance. She underscored the necessity of a collaborative approach to combating corruption, urging all staff members to support the committee’s objectives.

Mrs. Jafiya assured the committee of her unwavering support to help achieve its mandate of enhancing transparency and ensuring adherence to the rule of law in the Ministry’s operations.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu, lauded the establishment of ACTU as a government-approved mechanism to prevent corruption in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He noted that the initiative aligns with global best practices in institution building and governance.

Dr. Aliyu commended Mrs. Jafiya for her leadership and expressed confidence that the committee would ensure efficient and transparent management of the nation’s financial resources in alignment with Nigeria’s developmental priorities.

In her remarks, Mrs. Egundebi Oluwayemisi, the Ministry’s Director of Special Duties, congratulated the newly inaugurated ACTU members. She highlighted the importance of active participation by all staff to ensure the initiative’s success.

The Chairman of the Ministry’s ACTU Committee, Abubakar Othman, pledged to strengthen internal controls and increase staff awareness to cultivate a culture of integrity and accountability. He reiterated the committee’s commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and ethical governance practices as part of the Ministry’s anti-corruption framework.

The ACTU Committee’s establishment marks a significant milestone in the Federal Ministry of Finance’s ongoing efforts to enhance governance and promote a corruption-free public service.
