The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have pledged to strengthen their collaboration in protecting Nigerian consumers from exploitation and unfair market practices. This renewed commitment was made during a recent courtesy visit by FCCPC’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tunji Bello, to the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyede, in Abuja.

During the visit, Mr. Bello commended the EFCC’s expertise in surveillance and investigation, highlighting the critical role the agency plays in curbing economic crimes. He expressed concern over the growing incidents of arbitrary price hikes and other unfair trade practices, stressing the need for a unified approach to tackle these challenges.

Mr. Olukoyede, in response, acknowledged the difficulties faced by consumers and assured Mr. Bello of the EFCC’s unwavering support. He emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between the two agencies to ensure a fair and equitable marketplace for all Nigerian consumers.

Both the FCCPC and EFCC agreed to intensify their joint efforts to safeguard consumer rights and hold accountable those involved in economic crimes and exploitative practices.

This collaboration comes just a week after the FCCPC announced its plans to engage with market leaders across the country in a bid to curb exploitative pricing of consumer goods, underscoring the agency’s commitment to protecting consumers from unfair practices.
