The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the launch of a whistleblowing platform as part of its commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct within Nigeria’s financial system. This innovative platform, which is externally hosted, will go live on January 1, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the CBN’s efforts to enhance operational integrity.

In its December 2024 update, the CBN outlined the platform’s objective of providing a safe and secure avenue for reporting misconduct across various levels of the financial ecosystem.

“In line with our commitment to promoting an organization built on high ethical standards, honesty, and integrity, the Central Bank of Nigeria is unveiling an externally hosted whistleblowing platform,” the statement noted.

The platform is designed to enable employees, vendors, consultants, executives, and other stakeholders to report incidents of misconduct, unethical practices, or legal violations without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

“All reports made through this channel will be handled with the utmost confidentiality and professionalism,” the CBN assured, emphasizing that whistleblowers’ rights and identities will be fully protected throughout the process.

Reports submitted via the platform will undergo thorough investigations, with the bank committing to swift and transparent action to address concerns. The initiative aims to create a secure environment that encourages stakeholders to come forward, reinforcing the CBN’s dedication to operational excellence.

Further operational details about the whistleblowing platform will be disclosed closer to the launch date. However, the CBN has reassured whistleblowers of its unwavering support and confidentiality guarantees, underscoring its determination to foster a culture of trust and accountability.

Set to launch in early 2025, this platform underscores the CBN’s forward-thinking approach to upholding ethical standards and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s financial sector. It is poised to be a transformative tool in strengthening public confidence and promoting transparency across the system.
