Germany-based convenience sector solutions provider, Lekkerland and online payment platform epay have announced an identification solution called ‘Sofort ID’ for prepaid cards.

The jointly developed digital KYC solution ‘Sofort ID’ is based on the functionality of the electronic ID card. Epay obtains the preliminary technical resources required from Bundesdruckerei, a manufacturer of documents and secure identification devices, and then takes over technical implementation through its processing platform.

This solution’s potential extends beyond prepaid cards since it also satisfies the criteria for identification procedures under the Money Laundering Act. This means it is also appropriate for the so-called KYC (Know Your Customer) process for prepaid credit cards, which are commonly sold at kiosks and gas stations.

To activate the ‘Sofort ID’, the customer places his ID card on the display of an NFC POS terminal after payment with a prepaid mobile phone card. The user will then have to enter the CAN (Card Access Number, a 6-digit number on the front of the ID) and a valid e-mail address
