Kuwait has announced an extension to the deadline for the submission of fingerprint data for the country’s central biometric database.
Kuwaiti citizens now have until September 30th to provide their fingerprints, while expatriates have been granted an extended deadline until December 30, 2024, as confirmed by the Ministry of Interior. Initially set for June, the deadline for finalizing the collection of fingerprints has been pushed back.
Residents are reminded to schedule appointments through the Meta platform or the Sahel application before visiting the designated centers, as reported by The Kuwaiti Times.
With the threat of suspending all transactions with Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior looming, authorities have been urging Kuwaitis to complete their registration promptly. To streamline the process, the government has been installing biometric scanners at malls and opening additional registration centers.
As of April, approximately two million citizens and expatriates have already submitted their fingerprints, leaving around 400,000 registrations pending. To ensure comprehensive enrollment, Kuwait is introducing an at-home fingerprinting service for individuals who are unwell or elderly.
The collection of fingerprints is expected to bolster security measures in the Gulf state and address concerns related to dual nationalities. Delays in registration may be attributed to Kuwait’s demographic composition, with a population of 4.8 million, including around 3.2 million foreigners, many of whom may hold dual citizenships or are present in the country on temporary work visas.
