President William Ruto has put forward the name of lawyer Andrew Musangi as the nominee for the Chairperson position at the Central Bank of Kenya.
The announcement, revealed on Thursday, was conveyed by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula. The nomination has now been referred to the Finance Committee for thorough evaluation.
Wetangula has instructed the House Departmental Committee on Finance to conduct a comprehensive approval hearing and present its findings when parliamentary sessions reconvene after the short recess.
Upon receiving the parliamentary nod, Musangi will step into the role, succeeding Mohammed Nyaoga who concluded his second term in June, thereby vacating the position.
The responsibilities of the Board of Directors encompass overseeing the Bank’s operations, creating policies (excluding monetary policy formulation), and evaluating its performance.
The Board consists of eleven members, including the Chairman, the Governor, the Permanent Secretary to the National Treasury, and eight non-executive directors, all of whom are appointed by the President.
