Kuwait’s Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) has announced the introduction of new frequencies as part of its strategic plan to roll out the 5G-Advanced network, one of the most sophisticated communication technologies in the world. This development was unveiled during an event on Monday, where CITRA Acting Chairman Abdullah Al-Ajmi provided insights into Kuwait’s technological advancements.
Al-Ajmi revealed that Kuwait will begin phasing out 3G services by June 2025, reallocating these resources to further enhance and expand 4G and 5G networks. The introduction of 5G-Advanced technology is expected to solidify Kuwait’s position as a leader in adopting cutting-edge communications technology, representing a significant leap forward in digital services and mobile network user experiences.
Al-Ajmi explained that 5G-Advanced will significantly boost the capacity of mobile communication networks, allowing a greater number of subscribers to enjoy high-quality 5G services. This technology is set to pave the way for modern applications such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, 3D video, and cloud services.
These advancements will also play a critical role in supporting the infrastructure of smart cities, enabling ultra-high-speed data transfers at rates of up to 10 gigabits per second, which will be integral to future projects across various sectors, including government, industry, commerce, and individual users.
Al-Ajmi concluded by inviting the public to experience the new 5G-Advanced technology firsthand. A demonstration will be available at the Al-Hamra Tower shopping center near Gate 5, starting today and continuing for the next three days.
