Thierry Breton, the EU’s industry chief, has launched investigations into the content moderation decisions of three tech platforms, including Elon Musk’s X.

Recent weeks have seen mounting scrutiny of tech giants due to a surge in harmful content and disinformation following an attack by Hamas on Israel.

Under the broad-reaching Digital Services Act of the EU, very large tech platforms and search engines are required to take more stringent measures against illegal content, protect public security, and safeguard their services against manipulative practices.

While speaking on France Inter during a radio interview, Breton did not specifically identify the other two platforms under investigation.

He stated, “The judge can possibly issue temporary bans if things do not improve.”
